What Women Want Featuring Katherine Gear

Katie Gear

We know what women want, which is why we’re interviewing top business savvy women on their top travel essentials.

This week in “What Women Want,” we will be featuring Katherine Gear. Katherine is currently the eCommerce Marketing Manager for six Chicagoland Hyatt Hotels and has been involved in the social space specializing in the travel and hospitality industry for the past several years.

What’s the most unconventional item in your carry-on?

  • Earplugs, because you never know how many babies are on board.

At 10,000 feet, what gadget do you reach for?

  • My iPad, because I can work or relax with it, usually it’s a combination of both.

What book or e-magazine is currently on your Kindle or iPad?

  • Dark Places by Gillian Flynn, because after Gone Girl I couldn’t get enough of her books.

What is your guilty pleasure purchase at Kiosk before take-off?

  • I always grab a smart water, a Women’s Heath magazine and some peanut M&M’s.

If you could create an app to help you with your travels, what would it do?

  • It would check you into your flight and hotel automatically once you were near either location, as well as check you out of hotel rooms automatically depending on your departure date and preferred time.

What’s the most recently played downloaded song on your iPod or Spotify?

  • “Gone, Gone, Gone” by Phillip Phillips.

Fill in the blank: ORD –> HND

  • Although I’ve only been to Tokyo once, I’ve been itching to get back and hope to fly over there for a week or two (or longer, who knows!) in the next year.

Masters of Food and Wine: Sauvignon Blanc

Join us at NoMI on Saturday, April 26 for our next installment of Masters of Food and Wine, which will focus on Sauvignon Blanc. The event will be comprised of an exploration of four different interpretations of the versatile Sauvignon Blanc grape. Chef Ryan LaRoche and Sommelier Chad Ellegood have identified four key notes from the wines that will inspire each dish and create a sensory experience for each guest, each chosen from a diverse culinary palate.

Sommelier Chad Ellegood states, “I find a beauty in experiencing this single grape variety’s subtle changes, from lemon curd to lemon verbena, or fresh cut grass to tomato leaf, based from the place on Earth that it is grown and the different hands that craft it.” Join us in exploring these varieties for yourself as you engage in a unique sensory culinary experience. The menu for the evening follows below:

  • Nettle Soup
  • Quail egg, almond Cream
  • Merry Edwards, Russian River Valley 2012
  • Diver Scallop
  • Mussel broth, snow peas, Fine herbs
  • Craggy Range,Te Muna Road Vineyard, Martinbourough 2012
  • Poached Poussin
  • Smoked pomme puree, asparagus, natural jus
  • Pouilly-Fumé, Buisson Renard, Didier Dagueneau 2009
  • Dessert
  • St Germain sorbet, peaches, lilac-pear jelly
  • Sancerre, La Croix du Roy, Lucien Crochet 2011

We hope that you are able to join us. The cost will be $120 per person, and the event will run from 6:30 – 8:30pm. Please contact Camila Rachmanis at camila.rachmanis@hyatt.com to secure your reservation.

Easter Brunch at NoMI Kitchen

Celebrate the Easter holiday with the people you love while also appeasing your palate with high-quality flavors and ingredient-driven dishes at NoMI. When gathering together for the holidays, it is only natural to take time to indulge, and Executive Chef Ryan LaRoche’s Easter menu will allow guests to do just that. The specially selected holiday menu will offer the opportunity to sample from five lavish chef stations—from the ocean, cold table, stove, cave and finally, a dessert table—in addition to a sumptuous selection of a la carte offerings.

Easter is not only about the cuisine on your plate, but more importantly about the company at your table, which is why NoMI has organized an array of holiday-inspired activities for both the young, and the young at heart. In true Easter tradition, a quest for the “lucky egg” will allow each child to select an egg rested on a bed of wheatgrass appearing like a mini garden, to reveal a hidden treat inside. All prizes are sure to be rewarding, with each egg containing sweet treats created by NoMI Kitchen’s Executive Pastry Chef Meg Galus. However, two lucky gatherers will find that their eggs will reveal an especially suite surprise—the Family Celebration Suite Package. This includes a night’s stay in a premier suite with adjoining room for children, family-friendly arrival amenities, an exclusive behind the scenes visit with Chef Galus to concoct a tasty make-your-own milkshake and four tickets to the Chicago Children’s Museum at Navy Pier!

The sugar rush will not end with a hunt for the lucky egg. Chef Galus knows that the only creation that beats an egg filled with sweets is an egg that is constructed entirely of sweets! It is especially important that all guests save a little room after their meal, as Chef will be serving up a delicate chocolate egg that opens to a filling of soft serve ice cream. Let imaginations run wild as a toppings bar will allow all to create personalized dessert art by dressing up your ice cream with a variety of fun and tasty toppings!

For reservations, please call +1 312 239 4030. Easter at NoMI Kitchen will be on Sunday, April 20, from 10am-5pm, and pricing is at $125 per person. Exclusive, custom dining experiences are available for parties of twelve and above.

NoMI Juice Arrives to the Kitchen

NoMI Juice collage (4)

Ironic as it may sound, the Chef, who spends all his time creating masterful dishes for our tasting pleasure, can barely find time for himself to eat. Indeed, when Executive Chef Ryan LaRoche, Chef de Cuisine Sean Pharr, Sous-Chef Jody Voshell and Pastry Chef Meg Galus arrive at NoMI every morning, they must find a quick, easy way to re-energize in preparation for a long day in the kitchen. Luckily for us, our Chefs have decided to share their secret: NoMI Juice. Easy to make with any fruits and vegetables which are at their disposal, perfect for guests who are on-the-go, and most importantly, healthy and nutrient-filled, NoMI Juice is an excellent way to start your day.

Served every day during breakfast hours, NoMI Juice will highlight three different combinations of juices containing the freshest ingredients. Breakfast hours are from 6:30am-10:30 am Mondays through Fridays, and from 7am-1030 am on Saturdays and Sundays.

-          The Feature focuses on our cherished seasonal ingredient. Florida Pineapple Orange is a fruit that arrives to NoMI from an audacious distributor. Rather than bringing in oranges from overgrown, over-processed farms, they are hand-selected from the front porch of Floridian homes, for the most organic product.

-          The Sparkling is a solely fruit-based juice. When NoMI Chefs were blending juices for breakfast, they realized how much the flavor and texture were enhanced when these liquids were carbonated.

-          The Blend is here to take the standard orange juice drink to the next level with an iconic combination of fruits as well as vegetables for a nutrient-rich medley.

NoMI Juices are fresh-squeezed daily and contain no water or added sugar. The only concentrate is the thought behind it.
